With reference to your minute of the 26th August
I am directed to state for the information of the petitioners
that His Excellency has carefully read their petition and sympathises with the Post Office Clerks in their desire for an amelioration of their condition.
Until, however, an answer is received from the Secretary of State on the subject of the appointment of a Committee to consider the position of the Civil Service of this Colony, His Excellency is unable to take any steps in the matter.
I am to add that the petition will not be forgotten.
